1. What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) in Vietnam?
MOQs depend on the product and the factory. As a guide: footwear from 300–500 pairs per style; garments and accessories (bags, belts, wallets, hats) from 300–500 pieces per style; furniture is usually measured in containers, often from one 20ft or 40ft container; homeware and components vary by product (see each product page). Smaller trial orders can sometimes be negotiated with the factory. Tell us your product and quantity and we'll find factories that fit.
2. Is manufacturing in Vietnam cheaper than in China?
Often, yes, especially for labour-intensive products such as footwear and garments, where Vietnam's labour costs are competitive. Total cost also depends on materials; if raw materials have to be brought in from abroad, that adds cost. For mid- to high-volume orders, Vietnam is usually very competitive on total cost. We can compare quotes from several factories so you see real numbers for your product.
3. How long does it take from sample to finished goods?
A typical timeline is 45–90 days in total: sampling and development about 14–21 days, material sourcing about 30 days, then mass production and quality checks about 30–45 days. Times vary by product, factory and how quickly samples are approved. Shipping time comes after this and is arranged by you (see question 7).
4. How does a sourcing agent work, and what does IDC charge?
A sourcing agent is your team on the ground in Vietnam. At IDC Sourcing we find and shortlist suitable factories, check them before you commit, introduce you and arrange meetings or factory visits, support samples and price discussions, and inspect quality during production. You order from and pay the factory directly; IDC doesn't buy or resell goods. Our fee depends on your order and the scope of services you need – send us your brief and we'll give you a quote.
5. How do factory audits and quality control work?
Before you place an order, we evaluate the factory: business background, capacity, machinery and compliance. During production we inspect at three stages – in-line, pre-shipment (before the goods leave the factory) and final – using AQL (Acceptable Quality Limit) standards. You receive a report with photos and a pass/fail recommendation before you pay the balance to the factory.
6. How do payments to Vietnamese factories work?
30% deposit, the remaining 70% by T/T before the goods are loaded into the container.
7. Who arranges shipping from Vietnam?
You do, as the buyer: you arrange shipping, customs clearance and import, usually through your own freight forwarder. IDC and the factory don't ship or export on your behalf. If you don't have a forwarder yet, we can introduce forwarders who work in Vietnam. Delivery terms (where your forwarder collects the goods) are agreed between you and the factory. Sea freight usually leaves from major ports such as Cat Lai (Ho Chi Minh City) or Hai Phong; ocean transit to the US West Coast is typically around 25–35 days, and your forwarder will confirm times for your route.
